I left the earbud and the MacGyver'd plastic piece in for a while until it reached full charge, and things worked out perfectly. So anyway, I think there was some small contact issue in the case that was preventing the right earbud from charging or being detected at all. I put the left earbud in and held down the button, and finally (FINALLY!!) got the flashing white light to come on, then the amber light, and then the dialog finally popped back up on my phone and I got the earbuds connected! So I took a small piece of plastic I had lying around and stuck it in between the top of the earbud and the case, and got the light to stay on. I put it back in and tried again, and the amber light came on but went off as soon as I released the pressure. Just by good luck I happened to press the right earbud back (towards the front of the case) a bit while removing it one time in a way that made the amber light come on. I tried this a couple times to confirm, and tried to clean off the contacts on the right earbud and use some air into the case to make a better connection. I probably held it down for over two minutes just to see if there was some "hard reset" like on the iPhone, but still just solid white.Īt this point I became thoroughly confused and tried whatever I could think of - resetting the iPhone network settings, pressing the button a bunch of times in a row, pressing the button while the case was closed before opening it, taking the earbuds out of the case and then pushing it, all to no avail.Īt some point I noticed that when I put the earbuds back into the case, only the left one was causing the green light on the case to turn on. I googled the issue and found out about the reset button on the back of the case, so I tried to hold it down, but the light only stayed solid white as long as I held it down and did not start blinking or turn amber as described in the help docs. The indicator light on the case was green, so I tried a couple more times with no success. So I closed the case and re-opened it and got nothing on my phone. I wanted to document the symptoms here just because I wasn't able to find any solutions online that worked for me.Īfter charging I opened the top of the case and the connection dialog popped up on my phone as expected, but when I hit connect it spun for a while and then said the pairing had failed. Version 7.6.1 seems to do the job.I recently picked up a pair of AirPods and was ready to love them as everyone else here has until I ran into a very confusing set of issues while pairing.
